We are recruiting for a contract Family Support Worker to provide support to children with developmental challenges and their families; to promote the interests of the person with intellectual disabilities and his/her family in the community; to serve as a resource to families, professionals and the community in accordance of the stated goals of the agency. This is a 13 month contract position working 37.5 hours per week until September 27, 2019. The rate of pay of is $29.25/hour.

Minimum requirements of this position include:

  • BSW or B.A. in Social Science with relevant experience;
  • 3-4 years relevant experience;
  • Understanding of child development of the particular needs of persons with an intellectual disability and their families;
  • Working knowledge of the CFSA;
  • Valid G class driver's license and own reliable transportation to be used in the course of employment.

Duties and responsibilities:  (including, but not limited to) 

  • Developing a collaborative relationship with families or caregivers assisting the family in the development of effective child management strategies;
  • Working with the family to develop an Individual Family Service Plan (I.F.S.P.) to meet individual and family needs;
  • The provision of emotional support to individuals and families;
  • Case management, counselling and referral to community resources as appropriate to all family members;
  • Provision of information, public education, training, consultation and support to agencies serving individuals with special needs.
